Four Handy Deer Hunting Tips
There are millions of whitetail deer in Texas. That makes them a popular large game species, but it doesn’t mean they are easy to hunt. It takes a combination of knowledge, experience, and patience to enjoy a successful outing. If you are looking for ideal trophy whitetail hunts in Texas, Montgomery Properties Ranch is the perfect location.
While there is no substitute for a great guide on your Texas whitetail hunts, we’d like to provide a few tips to get you started in the right direction.
Get Up and Get Started
Whitetail deer hunting is not an activity for those who like to sleep in. In order to find as much deer activity as possible—making it more likely that you’ll have a chance for a clean shot—you need to get started early in the day. It might be tough to peel yourself out of bed in the morning, but you’ll be rewarded with improved odds of a successful outing.
Do You Smell?
If you are carrying with you any kind of scent—for example, if your clothes have a scent from washing them in scented detergent—you may be alerting the whitetail deer to your presence. These animals have a tremendous sense of smell, so don’t give them anything that is going to be cause for concern. To make sure your hunting gear is as scent-free as possible, avoid things like fabric softeners.
Find a Spot in Advance
Hunting may be an age-old activity, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use modern technology to your advantage. Specifically, you can use Google Maps or something similar to plan out your hunt. Where are you going to go, and how are you going to get there? Are there any prominent geographical features to consider? Obviously, you’ll want to pick out a spot where there are likely to be whitetail deer and, also, somewhere that you can access relatively easily.
Keep It Down
Too much talking can keep the deer away. There is nothing wrong with spending some time chatting with your hunting friends but know when it’s time to talk and when it’s time to hunt. Believe it or not, the deer may be able to hear you as far as a mile away, so your casual conversation may be negatively impacting your hunting experience.
