About the MPR Ostrich Hunt

The flightless ostrich is the world's largest bird. Standing at up to over nine feet tall and weighing as much as nearly 350 pounds, the ostrich can run at up to 42 miles per hour! Its talons are so sharp that they can cut right through a grown man. This big bird is native to the African savanna and desert lands and gets most of its water from the plants it eats. In fact, Africa is the only place where the ostrich is found natively in the wild, where it thrives in arid and semi-arid habitats.

Ostrich hunting can be a very exciting experience. Ostriches, or Struthionidae, have existed since the Miocene epoch—as long as 23 million years ago. They have the largest eyes of any land animal, which are larger than their brain. The ostrich also lacks teeth. To grind up food, it swallows pebbles and can hold up to 2.2 pounds of them in its stomach. There are plenty of pebbles to find at our Texas hunting ranch, so you’ll find ostriches roaming about (some may have been around a while, as this bird can live up to 45 years).

A Texas ostrich hunt is the perfect addition to your Texas hunting experience.
