About the MPR Bongo Hunt

Montgomery Properties Ranch offers opportunities to hunt bongo, an extremely rare type of antelope native to Africa. Come bongo hunting in Texas where hunters have come for some of the best trophy hunts on the North American continent. At Montgomery Properties Ranch, you can find the largest and most colorful forest antelopes in the world.

The bongo is a very striking forest antelope with a brilliantly colored hide and long, smooth, spiral-shaped horns. Both male and female bongos have horns up to 30 to 40 inches long, but the female’s horns are thinner and more parallel. Males are larger than females, reaching up to 880 lbs. The Bongo is an herbivorous animal identified by its reddish-brown coat with black and white markings and white-yellow stripes throughout. It has the keen ability of camouflage, which can make exotic hunting in Texas challenging, yet exciting.

The bongo can be found in Western and Central African forests. Native populations have declined due to habitat loss and hunting. However, the bongo is alive and well in Texas where you can find it by booking our exclusive hunting packages.

A reclusive animal, the bongo is often hard to locate among dense vegetation. Scouting it out requires patience, and you typically get only one shot; if it’s not a hit, you most likely won’t see your bongo ever again. Easily frightened, it can move very fast even through dense undergrowth, and it will stay alert for danger once under cover. The good thing is there are no seasonal restrictions on hunting bongo in Texas.

A Texas bongo hunt is the perfect addition to your Texas hunting experience. At our Texas hunting ranch, we offer several approaches to hunting this African game. Whether safari style, spot and stalk, or sitting patiently in a blind, you'll experience the ultimate African game hunt right here in Texas.
