About the MPR Blesbok Hunt
At Montgomery Properties Ranch, you can explore blesbok hunting opportunities that may yield the perfect trophy shot. Better yet, you can hunt blesbok year round. There aren’t any seasonal hunting restrictions for this animal in Texas.
The blesbok antelope’s native habitat can be found in Northwest Africa. The blesbok’s most notable traits include the prominent white blaze on their face and a horizontal brown strip which divides this blaze above the eyes. This distinct coloring inspired the animal’s name; “bles” translates to blaze in Afrikaans. The white face and forehead distinguish the blesbok from other types of antelopes.
The body is brown, a lighter saddle graces its back, and the rump is an even lighter shade. The legs are brown with a white patch behind the top part of the front legs, while the lower legs have a whitish coloring. Both sexes are horned. Female blesbok have slightly more slender horns than males; in both males and females, horns are ringed almost to the tip. Blesbok horns stay intact year round, and a horn size of 15 to 20 inches makes these some of the most sought-after trophy hunts.
If you want a successful blesbok hunt, tread carefully. When threatened, the animal can run at up to 42 miles per hour. That makes this one of the most exciting Texas exotic hunts we offer.
At one time, the blesbok was almost hunted to extinction. Protections since the late 19th century have enabled the species to proliferate, and it is no longer listed as endangered. Private land owners have found much commercial value in blesbok, so it is found on properties such as our Texas hunting ranch in sufficient numbers.
At Montgomery Properties Ranch, we offer several approaches to hunting this African game. Whether safari style, spot and stalk, or sitting patiently in a blind, you'll experience the ultimate African game hunt right here in Texas.
